As I mentioned the other day, this month I’ve joined with a great group of people on a 28-Day journey in an effort to learn how to create magic through gratitude.

As part of this journey, we’re exploring the book The Magic by Rhonda Byrne.
Really? I came across this opportunity at the perfect time! It was when I was already considering the “Trail Magic” we experience on this journey we call “life”. So, the timing was perfect!
But, here we are on day #11, and I’ve been really good at “working” the “system” since the beginning.
Take yesterday for an example. It was an awesome day! I was “in the flow”. I consciously felt gratitude in nearly every moment of my day. It was a good feeling!
This morning, though, I awoke after another challenging night’s sleep. I had a headache and wasn’t feeling terribly well, and what is our gratitude practice for today? Start our morning out in a magical way…
When you wake up to the new day, before you do a single thing, say the magic words, thank you.
From the moment you open your eyes until you’ve finished getting ready, say the magic words, thank you, in your mind for everything you touch and use.
Now, as I’m sure you know, it’s easy to feel gratitude when everything is going smoothly, when you’re feeling good. It’s a little more challenging to feel it, though, when you’re feeling like crap and things just aren’t going your way.
The truth of the matter?
It’s even more important to find things to feel gratitude for when we’re being challenged than at any other time in our lives.
Challenged By Crappiness
What we are doing when we are making a conscious effort to feel gratitude is nothing short of performing magic.
Think I’m stretching the truth just a bit when I make that comparison? Well, I’m really not.
Through my own personal experiences, I can tell you that magick is all about putting forth energy with the intention of attracting a particular outcome in return. In order to actually do that, we often utilize symbols, objects and other nuances that possess energies that are in alignment with our intended outcome.
Well, because like energies attract one another.
In this instance, we seek to feel the energy of gratitude with the intent of attracting more things to feel gratitude for.
Voila! It’s “magic”!
So, when we are experiencing crappiness or having a less than stellar day, it is more necessary – than at any other time – for us to find something, anything to feel gratitude for.
As part of the practices laid out in The Magic, each morning I sit and write down 10 things I feel gratitude for.
Count Your Blessings: Make a list of ten blessings. Write why you’re grateful. Reread your list, and at the end of each blessing say thank you, thank you, thank you, and feel as grateful for that blessing as you can.
Let me tell you, from personal experience, some mornings are more difficult than others. Such as this morning.
Turning It Around
So, how does one do it?
How does one find something to feel gratitude when one is feeling less than grateful for the “hand” they’ve been “dealt” that morning?
Here. I’ll give you a peek into some of the bits of gratitude I wrote today.
- I am blessed by challenging mornings because they make me even more grateful for the easy ones.
- I am grateful for the freedom of my time because I don’t have to be anywhere until later today, which means I can take things slowly and at my own pace.
- I am grateful to have woken up today because this day would be a great deal different if I had not.
- I am grateful for the challenging night’s sleep I had last night because 1) it means I have a healthy teenage girl, 2) we were not in freezing cold temperatures, and 3) it makes me appreciate the good nights of sleep even more.
- I am grateful for this headache because 1) it reminds me that I am still alive and in body and 2) it makes me feel more gratitude for the mornings I wake up without one.
- I am grateful that the sun came up this morning because if it hadn’t, there would be something seriously wrong.
This idea is really in alignment with what Abraham Hicks says…
Our reality really does reflect our thoughts, whether we are aware of them or not.
And if we are not already feeling gratitude for what we have, why would the Universe give us more to feel gratitude for?
Whipping With a Wet Noodle
Does that mean that I need to kick myself for how I’m feeling?
“Well, if you had been felt more gratitude or had better thoughts, you wouldn’t feel this way.”
No. Not at all.
Situations or even feelings/emotions that we experience are something akin to a personal compass. Abraham calls it our “emotional guidance system”.
The Google Assistant doesn’t say, “no! You idiot!” when you are following its directions but make a wrong turn, does it? No. It simply recalculates and tells you how to get to where you want to go from that new place.
Universal Energy is the same way.
The situations that we experience are an indicator as to where we are in relation to where we desire to be based on actions we’ve taken or even thoughts we’ve had in the past. There is no judgement in it. It’s just showing us where we are now, in this moment, and whether a “course correction” is needed or not.
So, how do you do it? How do you switch things around and head in a better feeling direction while in the midst of challenge?
I invite you to share your insights in the comments below. I’d love to know!
Until next time, dear friend, may you experience much to feel gratitude for!
